I am so in love with buying running gear. While nothing feels better than a new pair of sneakers, I also find great joy in running jackets, shorts, pants, long-sleeve shirts, short-sleeve shirts, you name it.
I have a serious weakness for marathon gear. It is hard for me to leave a marathon expo without spending over a $100. I used to have one draw of running clothes. Now I have three.
I think I have 13 running jackets. Nine are from marathons. Some I actually wear running, others are running jackets I don’t wear running because I don’t want to sweat on them.
My favorite piece of running gear is my 2009 NYC Marathon hoodie. I will never run in it but I have worn it all over the world. I bought it a few weeks before I ran the race and hung it on the back of my bedroom door so I would see it every morning when I woke up. So I looked at it everyday before the race but I never wore it until after the race.
I am superstitious about wearing marathon gear before actually running the marathon. It is just bad luck to do that. But buying it is ok.
So running helps feed my need to shop. That is my reason #6.
