Starting today I am officially marathon training for the next 209 days of my life. There are 365 days in a year and I have chosen to spend 209 of them marathon training. 30 weeks of long runs.
I needed to write that paragraph half to whine about the predicament I brought upon myself and half to brag about the next 30 weeks of my life. After all, I am running in two amazing cities – Seattle and Berlin – so who wouldn’t be excited…but then again 30 weeks is a long time. Technically I will be training in all four seasons. A little bit of winter, all of spring and summer, then the first week of fall.
I have no problem running two marathons in a year. I just usually take the tactic of training for 16 weeks, running a marathon and then recouping with four to eight weeks of Saturday morning chocolate chip pancakes and the VH1 top Twenty Countdown. That routine generally gets boring just as it is time to start training for the second marathon. It’s a successful recipe so why I decided to mess with it is unknown.
Nonetheless, my 2014 marathon training is underway!!
